The Grounding Magic of Tables

I've been trying to practice more grounding rituals as life lately has felt a bit swirly. Putting my feet in the grass, stretching during early morning yoga, and smelling a beautiful scent in the diffuser all help to ease my worry. As I've been practicing and noticing, I've begun to see how grounding a magical table is for me.

Last week, after being with my dinner club friends, and having the loveliest time—good Afghan food, special conversation and so many laughs—I texted my sister-in-law to say that I needed a drink and another table. For me, a magical time around the table typically leads to immediately making plans for another time around another table! We ended up at this beautiful bar near her house and sat for another hour as she asked more about the hard things happening in my life. She asked the best question that has lingered with me all week (what do you miss about a certain friendship that is no longer in your life). Her curiosity, her attention and her love were gifts.

The grounding magic of tables—for me—is the connection. As we eat together and share our lives, growing in trust with each other and receiving compassion, the table becomes a grounding reminder that we're not alone, and that we are supported and helped, even just for this moment, by people around a table.

Widen Your Table This Week:

Invite a trusted friend to a meal or for a drink, and practice sharing what's on your mind, asking your friend for what you need—support, advice, a hug, shared experience. Then, as you receive love from your friend, breathe deeply knowing that you are grounded and well supported at this table in this moment.
